As Paul closes his letter to Philemon, he knows his beloved fellow worker will respond to a difficult conflict in a way that exceeds his expectations. That’s because Philemon was a person of excellence. He excelled in obeying the Lord and loving his fellow believers. How did he achieve such excellence? Was he unique or can the Lord Jesus Christ also train us to be excellent in our obedience and love? The short answer is that He can, and this Sunday we’ll finish our series on Philemon, looking at how Jesus strengthens us to regularly go “Above and Beyond The Call of Duty.” Please read the letter this week and ask the Lord to prepare your heart to be changed by His word.
