Our beliefs drive both our mission and our vision. Our beliefs form the foundation upon which we build and move forward. In abbreviated fashion (please contact the Church for more information), the beliefs of Shawnee Hills are:
- We believe that the Bible, as originally written, is the authoritative and sufficient Word of God to humankind.
- We believe that there is one and only one living and true God. He is sovereign over the universe, holy in His character, and worthy of honor and glory. God is a unity of three persons- the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; all equal in the every divine perfection yet executing distinct but harmonious functions.
- We believe that God created the universe, including humankind, in six literal days.
- We believe that Jesus was conceived in the Virgin Mary by the miraculous work of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is both the Son of God and God the Son.
- We believe humankind was created in the image of God, but we sinned, thus incurring death, both physical and spiritual. Sin separates us eternally from God.
- We believe that salvation is divinely initiated, an act of God’s grace through the finished and sufficient work of Jesus Christ who voluntarily became like us, yet without sin, to be our representative, the sacrifice needed to satisfy God’s just demands to pay the penalty for our sins.
- We believe that all who receive Jesus Christ as Savior by the faith became the children of God and are secure in that state forever.
- We believe in the literal, bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and his ascension into heaven where he presently sits at the right hand of the Father as our High Priest interceding for us.
- We believe in the bodily resurrection of all the dead. Those who have been saved by faith in Jesus Christ will be united with God. Those who have not placed their faith in Jesus Christ will be eternally separated from God, judged by Him to eternal suffering.
- We believe that the local Church is an organized congregation of immersed believers, jointly committed to living out the teachings of the Word of God, thus bringing glory to God.
